It's been 4 days since I had any type of animal product, refined sugar or flour, oil, or caffeine. I have had a caffeine headache, but that's the only ill effect I've experienced so far! I'm sleeping far better than I have in years. I've always been afflicted with insomnia, and I've taken Trazadone as a sleep aid for years. I've stopped taking Trazadone because I hope to become pregnant soon. The last 4 nights I have fallen asleep around 11:00pm, several hours earlier than I usually fall asleep with Trazadone.
My food intake amounts to 1 pound of raw veggied per day, 1 pound of cooked veggies per day, as much fresh friut as I want, I cup of beans per day, and 1 serving of whole grain per day. My typical breakfast is a banana, a bowl of grapes, blueberries and strawberries. For lunch I have a summer salad with raw baby spinach, strawberries, blueberries and oranges with a splash of lime juice. Keep in mind that for each of those meals I can eat until I am stuffed! Dinner varies, and that's usually when I use my bean and grain serving, as I'm used to having a heavier dinner. So far I have made whole grain pasta with tomato sauce, zucchini, carrots, mushrooms and peppers (vegan garden veggie spaghetti), vegan chili (assortded beans and lentils, 1 onion, 1 can diced tomatoes, 1 red pepper, 2 jalapenos, 2 stalks of celery, chili powder, cheyenne pepper), and Beans & rice (whole grain brown rice, lentils, 1 onion, 2 gloves crushed garlic, 4 cups of vegetarian vegetable broth).
I am craving everything that I haven't been eating, especially cheese, milk, pop, and sugar. When I crave sweets I eat fruit. When I crave a crunchy snack I eat either roasted chickpeas or an handfull of raw almonds or peanuts. I am using soy milk as a milk alternative, which works great for cooking, but it doesn't taste the same when drank alone.
My system is changing as well, animal products really mess up your digestive tract, where as plant foods clean it up!
